EXHENB Engineering is implementing solar mini-grid systems under the Kenya Off-Grid Solar Access Project (KOSAP), providing sustainable electricity to underserved communities in Kilifi and Kwale Counties.
Client: Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC)
Capacity: 3 x 1.1MWp solar PV mini-grids (with storage & hybrid backup)
Location: Kilifi
Status: Ongoing (Expected Completion: Q2 2026)
Project Scope
- Design, supply, installation, and commissioning of distributed off-grid solar mini-grids
- Deployment of high-efficiency PV modules, centralized battery banks, and diesel genset backups
- Full EPC works including site preparation, perimeter fencing, equipment housing, and distribution cabling
- Community sensitization and training of local operators for sustainable handover and maintenance
Impact
Powering approximately 5,000 residents across three underserved trading centers and nearby institutions including dispensaries, schools, and water points.
The systems are engineered for reliability, resilience, and scalability to accommodate future growth in demand.
